ALICE MAIN and Ethan Phillips are set to officiate at the national Boccia finals in Sheffield, after successfully officiating in regional competitions.
Both studying sport-related courses at Truro College, Alice and Ethan are big advocates for boccia and are hoping to use it as a springboard to where they want to go in the future.
boccia is a ball sport that anyone can play, regardless of physical ability. Similar to bowls, players try to get the most balls closest to the jack to win.
Alice said: “Anybody with any kind of impairment can play it, so it’s something for everybody. As sport is such a big thing now, especially after the London Olympics and Paralympics, it’s great that there’s sport that anyone can play. It brings everybody together. I worked with students with additional needs in the summer and it gave me a broader mindset. I’m looking to do sports therapy next and maybe work with those with additional needs in the future.”
